Can I use compost liner bags?

While you do not need to use liner bags with our compost bins, a 12" or larger liner will fit our large compost bins and a 10" or larger liner will fit our small compost bins. Simply put the liner into the stainless steel bin, tuck the edges under the lip of the bin and set back into the wood frame.

Can I purchase replacement bin inserts and lids?

Accepted Answer

We sell replacement bin inserts and lids. Some people like to have two sets for when one set is in the dishwasher. You can also buy replacements online by searching for 1/4 (large) or 1/6 (small) steam pans.

Is the compost bin dishwasher safe?

Accepted Answer

Both the lid and stainless steel insert bin are dishwasher safe. The wood frame should be wiped down with a damp cloth if it gets dirty.

Question 4

How do I keep the inserts looking new?

Accepted Answer

After sometime your stainless steel inserts may start to look dingy. I have found that using Bar Keepers Friend removes any challenging spots and restores shine.

Question 5

Is the knock box insert dishwasher safe?

Accepted Answer

We recomend washing the knock box insert by hand. While the stainless steel portion of the knock box insert is dishwasher safe you would have to remove the padded bar first.

What kind of finish do you use?

Accepted Answer

We use Walrus Oil brand wood finishes to add sheen and provide water protection on all of our items. Walrus Oil is 100% plant based and made with food grade ingredients. With no synthetic or toxic ingredients, it's safe for humans and the planet. 
 
Ingredients: Perilla Seed Oil, Polymerizing Safflower Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, Carnauba Wax, Candelilla Wax, with a hint of Lime.

Question 7

The wood feels oily, why is that?"

Accepted Answer

Your item might feel a bit oily or waxy when you receive it. The finish we use is all natural and does not contain any chemical dryers so it takes around 4 weeks to fully cure. While it is curing try not to get the wood wet.

Question 8

How do I maintain the wood?

Accepted Answer

Your item may need a new coat of finish every once in a while if the wood starts to look dry (much like a cutting board). You can wipe on a thin coat of any Walrus Oil brand wood finish or use any cutting board oil, such as Howard Butcher Block Conditioner which is found in most hardware and home improvement stores.

How do I hang my shelf?

At this time we do not except returns. Please consider your purchase carefully before making it. However, we do allow you to cancel your order if the item hasn't shipped. Email us at coldhollowwoodworking@gmail.com if you need to cancel an order.

My item was damaged in shipping, what do I do?"

Accepted Answer

We package our items with great care but sometimes things happen. If your piece arrives damage please send us an e-mail with a picture of the the damage within 7 days of it’s arrival. We will then ship a replacement.
